Planning advice: I have provided heritage impact assessments and heritage statements to support planning applications for large and small development projects. This includes advice on listed building consent and the setting of heritage assets, all in accordance with the relevant legislation, the National Planning Policy Framework (for England) and Planning Policy Wales (for Wales), in line with guidance issued by Historic England and Cadw respectively.
Expertise in my chosen subject matter is at the core of my business. I specialise in and have published work on built heritage, industrial archaeology, church architecture and landscape history, with the necessary skills to convey this expertise to academic and popular audiences. I have proven historical research skills to PhD level.
Specialist advice in the form of Characterisation studies, Conservation Management Plans, Conservation Statements and Statements of Significance to inform future management of historic buildings and places.
Building Recording: I can undertake building recording to Historic England Levels 1-3, encompassing research, report writing, photography, and editing and checking of architect’s survey drawings.
Media: I have long experience in researching and writing history and archaeology in a popular format, both for magazines and for short and long books
Visual content: I am a very experienced photographer able to provide high-quality visual content for print and digital media. I also have extensive experience of picture research, acquiring images for publication from pictures libraries and important collections held across the Western world.
Public engagement: I am experienced public speaker, comfortable delivering both lectures and guided walks.
